@TheVoiceOfReason93 ...
@TheVoiceOfReason93 You misunderstand me. Not being charitable to your fellow men who are in need of aid through no fault of their own or forgivable mistakes is immoral. But this is simply a vice rather than a crime. Everyman must judge for himself what level and method of charity will best lead to his own and other's happiness. Crimes involves the infliction of harm. To confuse the two is to put the entire legal system into confusion and unnecessary conflict.

@M47H3M471C14N "those substances cause crime." Alcohol is one of the leading factors in many crimes. Heroin is not associated with crimes, except those to raise funds for the drug. Also some of the most damaging and addicting methods of drug use are preferred because of the very high cost of drugs. Before prohibition the less potent versions were preferred. E.g. opium to heroin, cocaine to crack The number one drug of choice, caffeine is preferred because it is cheap and its effect subtle.

@M47H3M471C14N 20% of the articles in the most recent quarterly journal of A.E. use equation, and another 20% use numbers generated in other publications. But given that economics is not fundamentally a system of equations but of human action it makes sense that there is a focus of theory.

@M47H3M471C14N There's a video and book out there called "The Myth of Science as a Public Good." C_PVI6V6o-4 It turns out that government research has no correlation to GDP growth, while private R&D has a noticeable effect. In addition every dollar dedicated to public research displaces more than one dollar from private research. Most of the early turnpikes were also built by private agencies. So where the utility companies. z2HXyfe_tCE Yes, Gov has a role, but mainly of displacement.

@M47H3M471C14N Two of the most vicious aspects of the welfare system are a follows. If you are single and have two children, and receive a wage under 30,000 per year, you are better of financially if you don't work at all. You also also get more benefits as a single mother than as a married mother which discourages marriage.

@M47H3M471C14N Jan Helfeld interviewed Nancy Pelosi of the Minimum Wage here 8pFC3LKMIQo it's hilarious as she tries to justify her unpaid internships. They can't serve as insurance against deflation. All it means that in the case of rapid deflation a lead to a greater number who will be unemployed, just as if the minimum wage was rapidly increased.
@TullyRiven SJ ...
@TullyRiven SJ programs should be left in the hands of NGOs as opposed to government agencies. Laws should still exist, but leave it to NGOs to be the whistleblowers and the government to hand out the punishment. @TheVoiceOfReason93 You're making leftists look bad.
@WorBlux By the ...
@WorBlux By the subject, I mean licensing requirements and militarized tactics in poor neighborhoods. Minimum wage laws, in my opinion, do serve a purpose, but they should be set below the equilibrium point. Generally, they serve as insurance against rapid deflation. @TullyRiven I admit that the current welfare system needs some serious reform. I, for one, would support the elimination of the current welfare system in favor of unemployment insurance and a negative income tax.
@WorBlux I'm not ...
@WorBlux I'm not sure because I don't enough about the subject to make an informed decision and I'm not quite sure what you're talking about. I'm pretty sure a significant portion of, if not most, rail lines were laid by the private sector. My fault for overlooking this. However, I stand firm in my belief that the government continues to play a huge role in research, development, maintenance, and expansion of infrastructure.
@WorBlux ...
@WorBlux Healthcare-wise, many regulations are unnecessary, but I believe EMTALA should stay and that there should be a public option to provide healthcare for those with pre-existing conditions and those who cannot afford coverage from private insurers. I'm not sure about licensing requirements and militarized tactics in impoverished neighborhoods.
@WorBlux Austrian ...
@WorBlux Austrian economists rarely use mathematics and econometrics when publishing papers. It's why they aren't respected by mainstream schools of thought. I agree we should lay off the drug war and allow for the commercialization of some controlled substances, but I don't believe that many others like heroin, meth, and crack cocaine should be legalized because those substances cause crime.
@TheVoiceOfReason93 ...
@TheVoiceOfReason93 Shut the fuck up about how poor people work harder than everybody else. It's getting annoying. You're stereotyping people, because there are a lot of hardworking people who have climbed the social and economic ladders and there are hardworking middle class and hardworking upper class people. Your generalization is almost as bad as the view of poor people as lazy good-for-nothings.
@FourOnSix713 1. ...
@FourOnSix713 1. Question as much as you want. The government is meant to be questioned. It's your right to do so. 2. Alright, fair enough. Further research should be done about this. For the most part, the stimulus/bailouts have worked. The automobile industry is recovering. Sales are up. 3. It's 1929. There were several causes for it. Protectionist policies combined with a sharp contraction in money supply along with a sharp drop in aggregate demand.
@TullyRiven The ...
@TullyRiven The comparative advantage is moving industries overseas. Not that there's anything wrong with that. It's nice to see a growing tertiary sector in America. I agree with your statement. Regulations must exist to a certain extent to prevent the exploitation of labor, pollution, fraud, and so forth. @FourOnSix713 It's the Great Depression of 1929, you fucktarded moron.
@FourOnSix713 What ...
@FourOnSix713 What about Japan? What if, is all you're arguing. What if the government didn't interfere, then the private sector would've accomplished the same goals. Until I see some actual, serious work by the private sector, I'll defer to the government for funding education and research.

@FourOnSix713 The Somalia and Libertarianism is Anarchy for Rich People thing was obviously made to piss less intelligent libertarians off. Anyways, you're fucking retarded. It's not a logical fallacy, because it's how things turned out in history. CERN and DARPA, along with numerous grants from the government, helped create the Internet.

@TheVoiceOfReason93 Firstly, the only one who has said or inferred anything negative about the poor is YOU. SJ programs have FAILED the poor and that’s a proven fact. Look who runs the government in those areas and how they have decayed despite money that has poured into it. The poor deserve a chance to work and the chains of welfare must be broken.

@M47H3M471C14N "KET uses a lot of other equations and it studies economic history and patterns. " So did Mises and Rothbard. However this data is arbitrary and historical by nature. And like all other application of historical theory the present are only as good as the intuition of the historian. However economic proper can have not have equations. Action is inherently unequal, consisting of perusing one thing and setting aside others.

@M47H3M471C14N Northern Pacific Railroad, early Rhode Island. Ending the drug war, removing licensing requirements, and ending minimum wage, will create jobs and opportunities in the poorest communities, as well putting an end to occupation and militarized tactics used by police in the poorest neighborhoods. Ending interference in the medical field will greatly reduce costs and make it more available.
